The dérive is an exercise which consists of, in essence, a very mindful walk. There's a little more to it than that - it's deeply rooted in psychogeographical and Situationist theory, but that's a bit of a mouthful. It is meant to help one recognize how their environment shapes their thinking - haven't you ever noticed that sometimes, you find yourself falling into an unseen "flow" of an urban environment without even realizing it?

I've set down some brief rules here to make your dérive experience as enjoyable and unexpected as possible. All you'll need are a few friends, something to take notes with, and something - anything - that can produce a random outcome.
